The Florida Keys

Key West to Key Largo

The word “key” is derived from the Spanish word “cayo,” which means small island. For hundreds of years the Florida Keys have been called home by sailors, fishermen, musicians, writers, artists, delightfully charming property managers, and everybody in between. With it’s culture of adventure, entrepreneurism, and uncompromising individualism, the Keys are truly a special place.

The Keys consist of over 1700 individual islands, 30 of which are inhabited, with Key West serving as the southernmost city in the contiguous United States and mile 0 on US-1. With a climate and environment closer to that of the Caribbean than the rest of mainland Florida, the Keys are a place of endless summer.

Although we love all the Keys, Beats Working southern headquarters is located in the city of Key West. With it’s boundless selection of great restaurants and Cuban street food, never ending music events at all hours of the day and night, and colorful local characters, Key West is a place that you won’t visit just once. You might even not go back home.

Music festivals take place all up and down the Keys, and reach their high point between December and March when the weather is dry, sunny, and 75 degrees. If you’re looking to escape the cold and experience world class music events, this is the time for you.

Of course, boat rides are the best way to experience the Keys. We have great relationships with many of the local charter captains, who are also our friends, and we can help you find the right boat for you. Whether you want a speedboat ride, jet skis, a sailboat, training in sailing, or even just a party barge for a booze cruise, please let us know what you need and we will get you out there.

As always, the Keys are a playground for water adventures of all types: ecotourism, free diving, scuba diving, fishing, surfing, kayaking, paddle-boarding, kite surfing, catamaran cruises, or just pulling up to a sandbar with a tasty beverage—we have what you’re looking for.

If you’re looking for on land activities, we also have recommendations for scavenger hunts, historical tours, hiking and biking trails, national parks, astronomy and astrophotography star parties, and our personal favorite activity, just riding a bike around and chatting with strangers. You’ll find our culture and lifestyle one of the most hospitable and friendly in the world.

We would be delighted to host you down in the Florida Keys: Close to perfect, far from normal.
